Emmanuel Omara
Market System Development Programs Lead
His growth continued at USAID FtF IAM as a Senior Partnership Intervention Specialist, later rising to a Business Development Manager at TechnoServe. At TechnoServe Uganda, he deputized the Country Director and oversaw the country’s portfolio of projects, whereas, at USAID FtF IAM, he led various interventions to the tune of USD 3.5 million across the activity zones of influence, which included Business/ Transaction Advisory Services (Investments), Agricultural Insurance, Agro-processing and Access to Financial Services.
Emmanuel’s management of business advisory service interventions led to private investments in 5 agribusinesses worth USD 1,500,000 leveraging USD 150,000 risk capital. His understanding of the agro-processing sector guided more than 35 agro-processors in Uganda to attain the UNBS Q-mark certification, saving them unnecessary losses that would accrue from non-compliant regulatory practices. Emmanuel led private proposal soliciting consultancies that influenced successful awards of USD 1,000,000 & UGX 20,000,000 by USAID & PSFU respectively, to 2 distinct local NGOs in Uganda. His patience, people management, and technical skills enabled him to deliver administrative, technical business development, and MEAL components across 3 Irish Aid/ UKAid projects while at Self Help Africa.
Emmanuel’s academic journey is a true reflection of a focused individual, one who understands his operating environment and strives to attain the matching skill sets to support organization goals while driving inclusive lasting impact. He attained an award of a Bachelor’s Degree in Agribusiness Management from Makerere University, a qualification that best positioned him to serve as an Agribusiness Development and Market Systems Officer for USAID and WFP-funded projects. To justify himself for managerial position considerations, Emmanuel believed that work experience alone may not present him as a competitive candidate. He therefore enrolled at the Uganda Management Institute and attained a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management. Thereafter enrolling in a PMP certification course for which he has yet to sit the certification Exam within 2024, thus earning a certified management professional award.
With the unending quest for knowledge in alignment with his influence in the market systems business sphere, Emmanuel enrolled for a Master’s in Business Administration (Finance Specialization) at Uganda Martyrs University. He has currently completed 2 years of classwork and is conducting a consultancy on the Development of a sustainable agricultural insurance marketing strategy for the agro-insurance consortium.
